JP2's Secretary gets JP2's old Archdiocese
Pope Benedict XVI today appointed Archbishop Stanisław Dziwisz, long-time secretary to the great Pope John Paul, as Archbishop of Krakow (the Holy Father having today accepted the retirement of the current Archbishop, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski).
Archbishop Dziwisz was born in that Archdiocese in 1939 and ordained a priest there in 1963. He worked in a parish for two years before being sent for graduate studies in Liturgy. He graduated with a License in Theology in 1967 and received a Doctorate in 1981.
In 1966 he was chosen to be secretary to the then-Archbishop of Krakow, Karol Wojtyla. He continued serving as his secretary when the great Pope John Paul was elevated to the papacy and until the Holy Father's passing in April. He was consecrated as a bishop in 1998 and given the title of Archbishop in 2003.
Well done, good and faithful servant...
