What d'ya know?
In today’s Gospel (Mk. 12:18-27), our Lord strongly corrects a group of Sadducees, not for their attempt at a trick question, but for misapplying earthly categories to heavenly realities.
Are you not misled
because you do not know the Scriptures
or the power of God?
While we are on earth, our understanding of heavenly realities is necessarily limited and analogical, but God helps us in our understanding through the Holy Spirit and what he has given us through the deposit of faith.
Each of us must be careful, however, and pray continuously that in our own humble search for understanding we may not be misled by our own agendas and desires, but rather that we may always be guided rightly by God “who wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth.” (1 Tim. 2:4)
