Intensity in the heart
In today’s Gospel (Lk. 2:41-51), when Mary and Joseph find Jesus in the Temple, his mother says
Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.
The root of the word translated above as “with great anxiety” means “consuming grief, pain, sorrow.”
That is what was in the heart of Mary - not just at that moment, but even more so on the day of his crucifixion: “consuming grief, pain, sorrow.”
Do our hearts have that same intensity in searching for Jesus?
