On the bad and the good
The financial and economic crises of these days have hurt many good people.
Many greedy people have been hurt as well (although it sometimes seems that some malefactors have not).
In this environment, the words of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in today’s Gospel from the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:43-48) have a special resonance.
...be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
We trust in the wisdom and the justice and the mercy of God: a wisdom that extends beyond a few news cycles or even a human lifetime, a justice that is inescapable, and a mercy that each one of us desperately need.
May you and I live in accordance with the wisdom and the justice and the mercy of God.
Be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.
