Questions from unbelievers
The crowds were unprecedented.
The excitement was electric.
The questions were vacuous.
So it was in today’s Gospel (John 10:22-30). The image that comes to mind is very much like the stereotype of a crowd of dense-headed reporters shouting the same questions over and over again.
It is reminiscent of so many of the annoying questions asked so often by reporters most especially in the time leading up to the Vicar of Christ’s arrival in the United States today. This is not to say that any of these reporters are stupid or that all of them have unfriendly motives, but at least a few of them seem to lack the understanding that comes from faith.
May you and I pray that our Lord Jesus Christ pours the gift of faith in abundance upon the people of the United States and of the world during these days of the Papal visit.
