Focus
In the first reading (1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21), a man receiving God’s call is allowed to go back and make a full, official break with his past life (even destroying the means of his old livelihood).
In the Gospel (Luke 9:51-62), our Lord calls his followers to a higher standard: to be immediately and totally focused on what God calls them to do.
May our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ give us the grace, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to hear authentically and clearly his call at every moment of our lives and to follow that call without hesitation or reservation for the love of God and of those whom God loves.
