The Holy Father has named Monsignor Michael Mulhall, 45, to be Bishop of Pembroke, Ontario (Canada).
Bishop-elect Mulhall was born in Pembroke in 1962 and earned a Bachelor of Arts from Trent University in Peterborough in 1985. Residing at Rome's Pontifical North American College, he completed his theology studies at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (the Angelicum) in 1989. He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Peterborough that same year. In 1991, he earned a License in Patrology at Rome’s Augustianum patristic institute. From 1991 to 1994 he served as Parochial Vicar at St. Mary’s of the Assumption in Huntsville. From 1993 to 1994 he also served as a Vicar Forane as well as a member of the Presbyteral Council and College of Consultors. He served as an official of the Congregation for Oriental Churches from 1994 until 2002 when he returned as Pastor to St. Mary of the Assumption. The next year he was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish. He has been Vicar General of the Diocese of Peterborough since 2004.
