Birmingham Bishop Bounces Back

Catholic News Service reports that Bishop David E. Foley of Birmingham has learned of a glitch with the April 7 announcement about his resignation being accepted by Pope John Paul II.
A message to Bishop Foley from Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, apostolic nuncio to the United States, said that "because of a misunderstanding" the information on the acceptance of the bishop's resignation "was not published by the Holy See in Rome."
"Consequently, I continue as bishop of Birmingham until such time as the next Holy Father, the pope, accepts my resignation," he said.
