The Conspiracy
In both of today’s readings (Jer. 11:18-20 & Jn. 7:40-53), people are conspiring against a single person who speaks God’s truth.
Both Jeremiah and our Lord are aware of these conspiracies, but their focus and their trust remains with God.
So too we may have people who wish us ill or oppose us (especially if we are serious about our faith in Christ), but our focus must remained fixed on Christ and his truth.
There are some who often speak of conspiracies: with great concern and at great length.
We as followers of Christ must not let our course be determined by those who are against us, whether they come singly or in conspiracies, but by God's truth and love.
We must not let ourselves be defined by our fears, but by our faith.
O LORD, my God, in you I take refuge
