The wrong side of history
Some people denounce Church moral teaching as being “on the wrong side of history”, but history itself shows that the conventional wisdom of each age as well as popular trends of morality and immorality overturn themselves frequently, while the teaching of the Church remains true from age to age.
Saint Paul gives us a good reminder in today’s first reading (1 Corinthians 3:18-23):
Let no one deceive himself.
If anyone among you
considers himself wise in this age,
let him become a fool,
so as to become wise.
For the wisdom of this world
is foolishness in the eyes of God,
for it is written:
God catches the wise in their own ruses,
and again:
The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise,
that they are vain.
May you and I pray always for the wisdom of God.
