New Bishop for Middlesbrough
The Holy Father has named as Bishop of Middlesbrough, England, Monsignor Terence Patrick Drainey, a priest of the Diocese of Salford, up to now Rector of St. Cuthbert’s College in Ushaw.
Bishop-elect Drainey was born in Manchester in 1949. He took his philosophy and theology studies at St. Cuthbert’s College and then the English College in Valladolid, Spain where he earned a Bachelor’s in Theology. He was ordained a priest July 122, 1975 for the Diocese of Salford.
He began his priestly ministry as a Parochial Vicar for 11 years in three different parishes. From 1986 to 1991 he was loaned (a priest “gift of God”) to the Diocese of Kisumu in Kenya. After returning home and serving three years he served as Assistant Pastor at Holy Cross parish in Salford, he was named pastor of St. Bernadette parish in Bury (1994-1997). In 1997, he was called to be Spiritual Director of the English College in Valladoid. Returning to England, from 2003 to today, he has been the rector of St. Cuthbert’s. He was named a Chaplain of His Holiness in 2006.
