Warsaw withdrawal

On the day he was to take possession of his Cathedral and begin his pastoral ministry in the Church of Warsaw, the Apostolic Nunciature in Poland has announced that Archbishop Stanisław Wielgus submitted his resignation to Pope Benedict XVI who accepted it and has designated Cardinal Józef Glemp to serve as Apostolic Administrator for the time being. Archbishop Wielgus had been struggling with serious allegations of collaborating with the authorities during the time of Communist rule.
