Stupid!
Many times in the Epistles of Saint Paul, the Apostle verily waxes poetic.
In today’s first reading, St. Paul simply whacks the Galatians.
But, lest we start to feel smug, St. Paul’s could easily call us “stupid” too, for the very same reason (at least)!
Many of us have had times – sometimes a passing moment, sometimes longer - when we felt close to God.
Some of us have even blessed at one time or another to have had “mountaintop experiences” or even – by the grace of God - years of being absorbed in the things of God.
Is that where we are now?
Or are the things we enjoy nowadays the things of this world?
Have we pulled back
from the streams of life-giving water in Christ
in order to get our jollies
from the stuff everyone else chases after?
(The stuff that breaks,
grows old, causes trouble,
and really isn’t all that great once we have it?)
Is that stupid, or what?
Let’s return to the Lord.
Let’s set our hearts on the things of heaven.
Let’s be smart.
