At the judgment

Our Lord’s warning in today’s Gospel rings strong and clear:

"At the judgment the queen of the south
will rise with the men of this generation
and she will condemn them,
because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon,
and there is something greater than Solomon here.
At the judgment the men of Nineveh
will arise with this generation
and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah
they repented,
and there is something greater than Jonah here."

That warning extends also to this generation here and now, the generation to which we belong.

Just think of the incredible gifts we have been given; think of the incredible tools of mass communication we have at our fingertips. This generation has the technology and the wherewithal to gather tremendous amounts of information and to distribute it to every place on the globe.

It used to be that many people never had a real chance to hear about the truth of the Savior Jesus Christ because there was no way to communicate the message to them. Many Christians were ignorant about their faith because books were expensive and were found only in libraries and in the homes of the rich.

Now we have advanced printing technology, a global economy, radio, television, satellites, and - wonder of wonders - the Internet.

And with all of this, how are we doing in our God-given responsibility to spread the Good News of Christ to every creature? How are we doing in comparison to our brothers and sisters in the past who had far fewer tools and resources?

Each of us to some extent has access to tools, technology, and time that we can and should use better to spread the Gospel of Christ, to tell the Truth of our Faith, and to share the love we have in our Lord Jesus. If we can read and write blogs such as these, we can do it – if not more!

Or do we want to rise with the generation of Gutenberg, the generation of Francis Xavier, or the generation of Fulton Sheen and be condemned?
