A Penitent Blogger

Mindful of my imperfections, seeking to know Truth more deeply and to live Love more fully.

The whole world

Violence and terror.

Shameless greed and hopeless poverty.

Perversion of minds and bodies.

These things seem to be on the rise in the world.

The truth of Saint John’s words in today’s first reading (1 John 5:14-21) seems more and more obvious.

The whole world is under the power of the Evil One.

But that is not the whole story:

We also know that the Son of God has come
and has given us discernment
to know the one who is true.

And we are in the one who is true,
in his Son Jesus Christ.

He is the true God
and eternal life.

The whole world may seem dark, but Christ is a light that shines unconquerably against the darkness.

We are not alone.

We have this confidence in him
that if we ask anything according to his will,
he hears us.
