From Seminary to Shreveport
The Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI has named as Bishop of Shreveport, Louisiana, Monsignor Michael Gerard Duca, a priest of the Diocese of Dallas and Rector of Holy Trinity Seminary in Irving, Texas.
Bishop-elect Duca was born in Dallas in 1952. After attending Saint Thomas Aquinas School in Dallas and Bishop Lynch High School in Irving, he studied at Holy Trinity Seminary and obtained his License in Canon Law at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rome (the “Angelicum”).
He was ordained a priest on April 29, 1978 for the Diocese of Dallas. He has held the following positions: Parochial Vicar at All Saints Parish in Dallas (1978-1981), Parochial Vicar at Saint Patrick Parish in Dallas (1981-1984), Parochial Vicar at Saint Luke Parish in Irving (1984-1985), Chaplain for Catholic students at Southern Methodist University (1985-1993), Vocations Director (1985-1992), and Rector of Holy Trinity Seminary from 1996 until today. He is a member of the Presbyteral Council and of the Priest Personnel Board and is a Diocesan Consultor.
