Else the journey will be too long

Sometimes we get tired.

Sometimes we just want to stop.

That is the way Elijah feels in today's first reading (1 Kings 19:4-8):

He prayed for death saying:
"This is enough, O LORD!
Take my life..."

....but the angel of the LORD came back a second time,
touched him, and ordered,
"Get up and eat,
else the journey will be too long for you!"

He got up, ate, and drank;
then strengthened by that food,
he walked forty days and forty nights
to the mountain of God....

If we feel tired,
if we feel worn out,
if we feel that we just want to stop,
we must remember to eat.

And in today's Gospel (John 6:41-51), our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ says this:

I am the living bread
that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread
will live forever;
and the bread that I will give
is my flesh
for the life of the world

We must always remember to eat spiritually, so that we may continue the journey our Lord sets before us in this world.

Let us come to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let us eat of the Bread of Life.
