Bishop of Mandeville, Jamaica, resigns

The Holy Father today accepted the resignation of Bishop Gordon Dunlap Bennett, S.J, Bishop of Mandeville, Jamaica, for reasons other than age.

A native of Denver, Colorado, Bishop Bennett, 59, was appointed Bishop of Mandeville just a little over two years ago. He had been ordained an auxiliary bishop in Baltimore in 1998. Previously, he had spent most of his life and ministry in California, particularly the Los Angeles area. He entered the Jesuits in 1966 and was ordained a priest in 1975.
