Having it all

People nowadays want to have it all: money, possessions, pleasure, autonomy, and anything else their heart desires.

But, sooner or later, it all goes away and we die.

St. Paul gives us a better way in today’s second reading (Phil. 2:6-11): the way of the Cross, the way of Christ, the way of embracing eternity and infinity (literally having it all).

Have among yourselves the same attitude
that is also yours in Christ Jesus,
which is yours in Christ Jesus,
who, though he was in the form of God,
did not count equality with God
a thing to be grasped,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a servant,
being born in the likeness of men.

And being found in human form
he humbled himself
and became obedient unto death,
even death on a cross!

Therefore
God has highly exalted him
and bestowed on him
the name which is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth
and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that
Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
