Tomb preview

This is a picture of the space in the Vatican grottos beneath St. Peter's Basilica where Pope John Paul II will be laid to rest. After this picture was taken, the tomb of Blessed John XXIII was moved to the main floor of the Basilica.

Pope John Paul II will be laid to rest "in the earth." His tomb therefore will not be freestanding as pictured above, but might appear more like that of Paul VI as pictured below.
