Run, Hun

St. Leo the Great was the first pope to be buried in St. Peter's Basilica. The 17th century bas relief marble altarpiece by Alessandro Algardi portrays Leo repelling Attila the Hun from his attack on Rome in 452. Attila raises his arm in fear as the Apostles Peter and Paul appear with swords in the sky.
