Games people play

Many people try to play games with those of us who are serious about their Christian faith. Much like the Sadducees in today’s Gospel, they may try to argue with us or ask deliberately tricky questions, just to trip us up or to make fun of what we believe and cherish.

Much like the Sadducees, they “are greatly misled” for they do not understand the power of God and therefore do not really understand the Scriptures (even if they can cite it chapter and verse). It would require on their part an absolute paradigm shift, a total change in their worldview.

Yet the same can be true for us as well, although most probably on a different level, for when we are terribly worried, or confused, or hesitant, or even doubtful; it is in some way because we do not yet understand the power of God, at least not as well as God call us to understand Him and to love Him.

We should pray for those who try to play games with us and pray for ourselves as well: that God may give us the mind of Christ and a fuller blessing of His Holy Spirit, that we may align our paradigms and worldview more perfectly with His and so come to understand better the Scriptures, the faith of the Church, and the power of God.
